Corporate Information
History
of North Coast Container Corp.
Earnest C. Beardsley
and Randall D. Reed formed North Coast Container Corp. in December 1983
to purchase substantially all the assets of Cortland Container's Cleveland
manufacturing facility. Both Ernie and Randy believed that with hard
work and determination they could build a successful business manufacturing
high quality 55-gallon steel drums.
Operations were
never interrupted during the transition. The plant continued to operate,
starting North Coast's history of dependable, continuous delivery to
customers. Ernie and Randy, along with the employees of NCCC, began
working to create a profitable enterprise.
In 1986, North Coast
purchased The Ohio Corrugating Company of Warren, Ohio from the bankruptcy
court. This strategic purchase was engineered to acquire the relatively
modern portions of the Warren plant which were installed in 1983. Selections
of the Warren plant's equipment were moved and installed in the Cleveland
facility as part of a plant upgrade. The remaining Warren facility was
later sold to an unrelated industry entity. In an ironic twist, Ernie
was re-united with Ohio Corrugating, where he first started working
in the steel container industry back in 1950.
STC Transportation,
a wholly owned and operated subsidiary of North Coast, was formed in
1987 in response to customer demands for guaranteed on-time deliveries.
STC stood for "Single Trip Container", which was embossed
on the bottom of steel drums at one time. In 1989, Mardor Enterprises
Inc. was formed as a leasing company to finance the continuous capital
improvements and transportation infrastructure of North Coast.
In May 1997 Calig
Steel Drum Co. of McKees Rocks, Pa was merged into North Coast Container
Corp., the surviving corporation. The company was renamed North Coast
Calig Corp. Portions of the plant equipment were installed in the Cleveland
facility. The manufacturing facility in Pennsylvania was closed. In
1998 the Pennsylvania facility was sold to an unrelated industry entity.
June 1998 saw the return of the name North Coast Container Corp., subsequent
to the closing of the McKees Rocks plant.
North Coast was
a founding member of Containers America, LLC in March 1999. Joining
with other independent steel drum manufacturers, Containers America
LLC allows North Coast and its partners to work together supplying national
contracts with steel containers. Ernie served as President of Containers
America, LLC from March 1999 to October 2001.
Approaching its
20th anniversary of business, North Coast Container Corp. looks forward
to the continued long-term success of our company, our suppliers, and
our customers.
